Immigration Fee Hikes

Immigration Fee Hikes

Sin Barreras/Without Barriers
Policy Statement

In a new proposal, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) called for major fee hikes for immigration-related applications. The fees are being raised upwards of 50% for most applicants, and the government is eliminating fee waivers, as well as instituting a cost to applying for asylum. Taken as a whole, these changes would make it significantly more expensive to legally immigrate, imposing significant burdens on low-income immigrants. The agency is soliciting comments on the new fees, with the
comment period extended to end on December 30.
Sin Barreras urges you to submit comments to the USCIS opposing these changes because they will make it very difficult for low income individuals, crime and human trafficking victims, and asylum seekers to take advantage of the programs legally available to them to enter the United States. To comment go to the following website “www.regulations.gov” and search for USCIS. In the search results that follow, find “U.S.
Citizenship and Immigration Services Fee Schedule and Changes to Certain Other Immigration Benefit Request Requirements” and follow the instructions to submit your comment. You should also write to your Representative and your Senators asking them to take action to oppose these fee increases.
