Legal & Immigration

A Rights and Justice Initiative

Legal Assistance

A significant achievement in our clients' lives is attaining legal presence. Over the years, Sin Barreras has played a crucial role in helping numerous clients fulfill their aspiration of becoming full-fledged citizens. We've supported a substantial number of individuals in obtaining Legal Permanent Residence status, a vital step on the path to citizenship. We've also aided numerous families in reuniting with their loved ones in the U.S. through immigrant visas, another key step toward citizenship. Additionally, we've guided a significant number of young individuals in securing DACA status, granting them legal residence, work privileges, driving rights, and, in Virginia, the opportunity to attend in-state universities. Our dedication to these petitions involves extensive effort, spanning several months of diligent work and multiple office consultations. Sin Barreras offers these services for a nominal fee of approximately $200, a stark contrast to the fees charged by Charlottesville immigration attorneys, which typically range from $4,000 to $5,000. Sin Barreras has solidified its position as a leading provider of immigrant services in our region.

Services

  • Consultations with Attorneys

Community members can schedule appointments for consultations with attorneys in our office to address questions or concerns for advice, information and next steps. They can also learn about our other programs.

  • Case Work

Consult with non-attorney professionals accredited to work on immigration cases by the US Department of Justice.

  • Legal Documents

Assist with filling out legal documents and translations.

  • Latin American Consulates

We build and maintain relationships with the Latin American consulates, of which there is a larger population and need in our region of Central Virginia. The longest-running collaboration is with the Mexican Consulate multiple times a year through their Mobil Visits to Charlottesville. We have a growing relationship with the Guatemalan Consulate, which we helped bring to Charlottesville to provide mobile services for the first time in April 2023. We established a connection with the Honduran consulate during and pre-pandemic. We continue to communicate and work on relationships with other consulates, including the Salvadoran consulate.
